Common retrospect for life tidal3/9/2024 ![]() Most of the Atmos content looks to be one off tracks collected into themed playlists (pop, classic rock etc). I'm running the Tidal app on an Apple TV 4K into a Denon X3500H Atmos receiver, with a 5.1.2 speaker setup - M&K K7s across the front, two K4 tripole surrounds, K9 sub and Onkyo Atmos up firing speakers atop the main L&R speakers. This would make a big splash in the communities more likely to be your long term high end customers.įinally signed up for a Tidal HiFi tier trial in order to give the Atmos content a spin. Hope you guys can make bitstreaming Dolby Atmos content to an external device a reality soon. IE lossless Atmos audio streaming like your current stereo offerings. It's worth noting that all bitstreaming of atmos audio from the aforementioned services has been in a lossy format which is another area you could take the lead in. There has been some dismay and confusion in the serious surround music and audiophile circles that the first support of online Atmos music was for a target audience who are decidedly not early adopters of surround music, ie those using music playback devices comprised of phones and speakers like the Amazon Echo rather than a traditional enthusiast audience who have been buying surround music content for 50 years for systems capable of true discrete playback and who seem more like the kind of customers who would pursue a Premium Tidal subscription. The Nvidia Shield TV is the most popular Android based streaming device by a wide margin and there are millions in use delivering bitstreamed Atmos audio today from services such as Netflix, Amazon Video and Vudu. This particular Android device is perfectly positioned to deliver the first implementation of online Atmos music bitstreaming to true high fidelity systems. We are anxiously awaiting further support on external Android devices such as the Nvidia Shield TV. JanuThanks for the early support of Atmos music content.Ītmos on Tidal has been a hot topic of discussion where serious surround music fans and audiophiles gather. Next step is true lossless Atmos like their stereo offerings. I can't imagine what would make some kid (or adult) with a phone and some headphones or some kind of little pretend surround speaker pay $20 a month for high fidelity streaming music but what do I know. I really do believe the hardcore surround geeks that have been around since the 1970s will be their best bet as early adopters for these expensive subscriptions. In retrospect I should have been more forward thinking and inclusive of other capable devices in my request. ![]() I'm an Nvidia Shield TV owner so pushed that angle in selfishness. Obviously it was likely planned all along but if it helped light a fire then call me Prometheus. She said she couldn't provide me with an immediate response to confirm the status of my request but said they truly appreciated my feedback and would use it to help shape the wants and needs of customers. I wrote to Tidal back then* and to my surprise heard back from rep who forwarded my feedback to their product department which met once a week to discuss customer feedback in detail. When the initial releases back in January were only available on phones and dinky little self contained speakers like the Amazon Echo surroundophiles were perplexed and incensed. ![]() We'd been hearing in the past few months from mixing engineers like Greg Penny and Steve Genewick of the hundreds of Atmos mixes they and others had been working on and everyone was wondering if/when we'd hear any of them and how. It's been further not helped by Tidal not doing a great job so far making it easy to find everything available in Atmos.Īfter all the head banging, complaining and criticizing though, there's some truly exciting results out there. Instead of simply letting people know this and the version of the app which was needed and when that should be expected, they let people bang their heads against a wall for days trying to figure it all out. Following this the updated app for some devices was only pushed in some parts of the world. ![]() It may be the 8 track of the year 2021 but while it lasts it'll be a sweet ride.ĭespite being marketed to consumers as some kind of simple easy thing to try the initial push was badly bungled, mostly by not ensuring all the pieces were in place before the press release, so some devices Tidal said would/should work couldn't because the updated app had not been pushed yet. Suffice it to say the new streaming surround revolution has started and it is (mostly) magnificent. Can't believe there isn't more discussion about this here yet but I guess this isn't QuadraphonicQuad.
